As a gardening club filled with members that enjoy giving back to the community, getting the word out that a group of widely diverse members of any club, regardless of the subject or specialty, can contribute significantly to the betterment of our fellow human beings serves as a great example, not only to others, but to our future as well. Thanks to everyone who contributed and to Q Salt Lake for spreading the word.

On Wednesday, April 6th we’ll hold a short business meeting with our potluck dinner. Bring a dish and enjoy the great company and food. If you’re new to the club or thinking about joining, potlucks and less formal business discussions are a great way to meet existing members as well as experience the dynamic of the group. As usual, plates, utensils, napkins, cups and drinks will be provided.
Also, as Dave Mash suggested in the March Newsletter, this might be an excellent time to bring up ideas and suggestions for the club both officially during the business meeting, and socially, during the potluck. We hope to see everyone there!
The meeting begins at 7:30pm at the Club House, located at 1602 East 2100 South.

Saturday, May 14, 2011 from 10:00am – 3:00pm at REI located at 3285 E. 3300 S.
REI will be offering over 40 different, high-quality and affordable native trees, shrubs, grasses and perennials for sale (all plants are grown locally and NOT harvested from the wild). Please, cash or check only.
In order to receive your FIVE FREE NATIVE PLANTS, dig up and bag all of your myrtle spurge (AKA Donkey Tail Spurge), Euphorbia myrsinites, removing at least 4″ of the root clump and bring the whole thing to the address above. REMEMBER: wear protective clothing including long sleeves, gloves, and eye protection. All euphorbias have a latex-based sap chock full of irritating alkaloids and other chemicals that can cause severe skin irritation.
And yes, myrtle spurge is an invasive non-native species that crowds out native plants in our foothills and canyons.

The Spring City Heritage Days Home Tour proved to be a fantastic time for all. Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy the great weather, art, rhubarb everything, and the company of your fellow members and friends. Here’s to Spring City Heritage Day 2012!

And certainly a special thanks to Bruce Spiegel and Jim Baker for opening their beautiful home, yard (and pantry!) to us, and being wonderful and gracious hosts. It’s not easy wrangling nearly 25 tour-weary members and friends, all thirsty and hungry! After a day spent touring Spring City’s pioneering past and artistic present, Jim and Bruce capped off this perfect day with a delicious BBQ, great company, and all in a delightful setting. Thanks again guys!
